Our Business
Kimal is an independent, privately owned company started by Mr George Press as a labware engineering manufacturer before becoming a distributor for Cordis (now J&J) in 1964.
Kimal subsequently introduced a number of significant technologies and manufacturers to the UK. These included: The Judkins technique; Cook; Terumo; ACS (now Guidant); AVE (now Medtronic) and Arrow. Kimal introduced the first hollow fibre dialyser in 1968.
Kimal has always had a willingness to partner and collaborate with customers and suppliers and still enters joint ventures and long term relationships with like minded parties.
Kimal soon began trading internationally, building a significant business in Europe, Scandinavia and the Middle East. Kimal also began manufacturing and in 1992 introduced the first complete procedural solutions into the cath lab. This was followed by the introduction of a Kimal range of introducers, guidewires, angiography catheters and other essential products for cardiology, radiology, renal therapy and surgery.
Kimal manufacturing operations are centred at our plant in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, which has capacity to manufacture 2,000,000 customised procedure packs a year. In addition we manufacture ‘own label’ packs for strategic partners in many different fields through Kimal’s ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified contract services operation. Manufacturing and product development is supported by Kimal’s in-house Quality Assurance and Regulatory team.
Nearby at Droitwich, Kimal has a 70,000 sq ft distribution centre from where products are shipped to more than 70 countries around the world. Service is a critical element of Kimal’s offering and Droitwich is now a hub for a number of innovative complete procedural solutions, managing inventory and delivering directly to hospital units and patients homes.
Kimal is now an international company with direct operations in Germany and the Middle East and an international sales team of distributor managers. The international team operates from our London office at Uxbridge, close to Heathrow airport and we also maintain an office in China.
Kimal employs approximately 250 staff and has plans for continued expansion both in the UK and throughout the world.
